·       Hang up the poster, ask Q's to elicit ideas:

·       pic1: Where are they? Malaysia and the man being interviewed is a Malaysian. Where are they standing? in some kind of field with young plants, look at pic3: What kind of trees are they? rubber trees.

·       pic2: Look at these men who are cutting down trees in a forest. Introduce: Þ labourer: a man who does heavy work with his hands and who does not have any special skills. introduce: Þ jungle: If you want to grow rubber trees, you have to cut down the trees in the jungle (= thick forest in hot countries) to make space for the rubber trees.

·       pic3: Say, These are the trees that were planted in the space made in the jungle. They have now grown. They are in a special kind of 'farm'. A farm where, e.g., rubber trees or tea plants grow is called a plantation.

 

 

·       Write these 3 Q's on the board:

   1.   What is the expert’s name?  (John Lim)

   2.   When did the project start?  in 1969

   3.   Where did help come from? from the wealthy countries of the Arabian Peninsula

   4.   What two things did this enable them to do? to increase production and give homes and work to around 7.500 families

 

 

·       S read aloud the Q's, introduce Þ enable: to make something possible for someone.

·       Play the cassette, S answer the Q's, if necessary play the cassette again.

 

 

 

·       Open PB/41 and look at the Q's at A. S read the Q's and answer them.

·       S read the ins's. for B, play the cassette to introduce the following words:

·       Þ financial ð money

·       Þ aid ð help

·       Þ needyð poor

·       Look at C, S read aloud the ins's. and the Q's, S answer the 6 Q's

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

WRITTEN WORK:

Write a fair copy of the paragraphs on writing book P/31 onto WRB/32.
