· Open PB/P40-41. S read aloud the title P/40, ask: What is the problem with the ozone layer? .. a hole in the ozone......or.......There is a decrease in ozone in the earth’s atmosphere. · Ask: What is the cause of this hole? What is the cause of this decrease? fringes, air-conditioners, plastic foam and aerosol sprays. · How many paragraphs are there in the passage on page 41? 5 · S read aloud the 1st sentence of para #1, ask: What do you thing this para about? the earth’s atmosphere, or the layers in the earth’s atmosphere. · Do the previous step with the other 5 para, e.g.,.: Þ para 2: a decrease in ozone in the stratosphere. Þ para 3: dangers of this decrease. Þ para 4: one cause of this decrease. Þ para 5: the answer to the problem of this decrease. · Write these 3 Q’s on the board: 1. Why is the ozone layer important?
