   ·   Write used to on the board. Say: You used to be in intermediate school but you are in secondary school now.

   ·   Draw a time line and write:

                                                                 

 

You used to be in intermediate school

( but you are in secondary school now)

                                                                                                                                 ·   Say: We say that because it happened a long time ago.

   ·   Show them some cards with 4 examples.

   ·   Draw a time line and write:

 

 

People used to travel on horses.

(Now they drive cars)

   ·   Say: We say that because it happened again and again in the past.

   ·   Show S some other examples.

   ·   Ask: What comes after ‘used to’? a verb. Write on the board:

   ·   Do a quick substitution drill. Use this sentence:

                                                                                                              Þ  I used to live in Riyadh.

   ·   Show S the prompts on cards: He/We/They/She/Have friends/I.....etc.

   ·   Say and write:                                    Hamad was a farmer.

   ·   Open PB/P36, read the exp and sentences in box 1. Do the same with box 2. Write on the board:

              Everyone used to listen............

   ·   Read aloud box3. Two S read the conv.

 

 

 

   ·   Open WB/P32, read the ins’s, examples and the exp’s for the grammar ex.Say: The second example : (Hamad went to Riyadh last week) cannot be written again with used to because it did not happen again and again, it did not last a long time and it did not happen quite along time ago. It happened recently and only once.

   ·   S read the sentences aloud. Other say why the sentences can or cannot be changed.
