   ·   Say some sentences from the reading passage, S say whether each one is active or passive, others try to change the sentence from passive to active or from active to passive.

   ·   Write this sentence on the board:

 

 

The Muslims captured Damascus.

   ·   Ask: What is the verb? captured, write the letter V over capture. What comes before the verb? The Muslims. We call this subject. Write the letter S above The Muslims.

   ·   Point to capture and ask: Is this active or passive? active, Ask: What do we call the person or thing after the verb? the object. Write O above Damascus.

   ·   Say this is an active sentence, (a verb means an action), Say: The action is (capture ), ask: Who did the action? The Muslims. Draw a line from The Muslims to captured, ask: What did they do the action? Damascus, draw a line from captured to Damascus. Say: The action goes from the subject to the verb and from the verb to the object. Point to an arrow and introduce it.

 

   ·   Write this sentence on the board:

 

 

Spain was ruled by the Muslims.

   ·   Say: This is passive. Ask: Who did the action? Spain or Muslims? Muslims. Draw lines to show the direction of the action: From the subject( Muslims) to the verb (was ruled) then to the object(Spain).

   ·   Open PB/P/22, read the inst's in box 1. Read the 2nd box.

   ·   Open WB/P/16, read the ins's, S say whether they are passive or active, and show the direction of the action with their fingers.

   ·   Look at ex. B and C,P/16-17, read the ins's, S do these 3 ex's for homework.

 

 

 

 

   ·   Look at PB/P23, S read # 1 and 2, S read aloud the first note in # 2, S read aloud the sentence in # 1.

   ·   Repeat for all the notes and sentences in # 1 and 2.
