   ·   Hang the poster, PB should be closed, ask the 5 Q's on PB/P19, accept any reasonable answers and say: The answers for Q 3 & 5 are on 20.

   ·   Open PB/P20, look at the box, introduce ' note ' = look carefully, read the 2 sentences, introduce ' peace be up on him ' = the phrase said after the name of a prophet. Introduce: permanently = always - not a day, not a week, not a month but for a long time .  Followers = supporters.

   ·   Ask:

  Þ   In what  Gregorian year did they move permanently to Madinah? six twenty two.

  Þ  What year was 626 in the Hijrah calendar? 1 AH

 

 

   ·   Look at the passage and read the title. S scan for information: 

   *   How many years can you find? 10, elicit the dates and their line #'s

   *   Find towns and cities.

   *    countries.

   *   continents.

   *   seas and oceans.

   *   What does ' it's ' mean in line 6? the spread of Islam.

   *   they, line 7: The Muslims - they, line 9: the Muslims - them, line 12: the Muslims - they , line 18: the Muslims - there, line 24: Algeria and Morocco - that country, lines 25-26: Spain - they, line 27: the Muslims.

 

 

   ·   Write 3 Q's on the board, S read the passage silently and look for the answers:

  a)  Who did the Muslims meet in the north? Roman Empire L:6-8

  b)  Who did the Muslims have to fight in the east? The Persian army, L:11.

  c)  When did Islam spread from Africa to Europe? in 711 AD

   ·   S read the Q's, open PB/P20, 3m to find the answers.

   ·   Look at the 1st sentence, there are 2 words: Allah and Qur'an, show S their cards to spell them.

   ·   Read the passage again, underline words any words you don't know.( 3 m)

  ¨  Peace: not fighting

  ¨  beyond: outside

  ¨  advance: Does it mean go forwards or backwards? So advance means to go forwards.

  ¨  Roman: The adj. from Rome.

  ¨  empire: many countries under 1 government, 1 king.

  ¨  defeat:( losing the war) Say: The Muslims had to fight the Roman, Did the Muslims finally win or lose? won, so the Roman army finally lost.

  ¨  Persain:The adj. of Persia, the old name of Iran.

  ¨  border: Ask: Which countries does S.A have borders with today?

  ¨  look at the 2nd paragraph and ask: What is the difference between prepositions:

  Þ  from 715 and by 717. From means beginning at ~ and continuing after ~/  By: means before or at ~

  Þ  ~ means a year, a month, a day or a time.
