PROCEDURE

 

OBJECTIVES:

  A.  Introduce The Early Spread of Islam.

TEACHING AIDS:

Poster 5+ some cards.

ACTIVITIES:

   ·   Hang poster 5, ask: What kind of pic is this? a map., What does this map show?..countries, seas, Europe, Asia, Africa, S.A.

   ·   S tell me the directions: N, S, W, and E.

   ·   Introduce 'continents'  by pointing to some continents: Europe, Africa, Australia....

   ·   Point to the Arabian Peninsula, Ask: Do you remember what this is called?

   ·   Ask: Are there any seas on the map? the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Sea.

   ·   Point to the Atlantic Ocean and say: This is much bigger than a sea. It is called Ocean.

   ·   Point to the large shaded area on the map and say: Our title explain what the area on the map is.

   ·   Point to the Years and say: from 12 to 236 - are A H( the Muslim/ Islamic calendar) but from 633 to 850 are A D ( the western calendar). Ask: What does AH mean? The Hijrah calendar. Ask: What does AD mean? The Gregorian calendar.

   ·   Ask: What happened in the 1st Hijrah year? Our prophet moved from Makkah to Madinah. Point to the title and ask: What began in the year 12 Hijrah? The spread of Islam.  Spread = move.

   ·   Point to the compass and ask: In which direction did Islam spread? All directions, say some cities and countries on the map.

   ·   Open PB/P19, S read aloud the title, then ask what does ' early ' mean? at the beginning, a long time ago, in history. 

   ·   Look at the map at page 19. I am going to describe some places. Listen to the description and try to find the place on the map. When you find the place just put your finger on the place on the map. S repeat the words:

  Þ  A city in France. Tours

  Þ  A city in Italy. The modern capital of Italy. Rome

  Þ  Two cities that are now in Iraq. Baghdad , Basrah

  Þ  A city in north Africa, but not in Egypt. Carthage

  Þ  An Egyptian city near Cairo. Alexandria

  Þ  A city in Palestine, a Holy City in Palestine. Jerusalem

   ·   S look at the 5 Q's on PB/P 19 say : these Q's are homework.

   ·   Show S the cards of the new words, S practise spelling and pronunciation.
