   ·   S open PB/p12 & 13, look at the title and the pic, A s read the title aloud.

   ·   Look at the pic, What can you see? a family, Who are the members of the family? father, mother, children, grandmother, grandfather.

   ·   Look at the graphs, ... What do they show? ..... S read the captions there.....

   ·   Ask questions about the graphs:

  1.  [Graph 1] Which age group has the most accidents? (the 30-64 age group)

  2.  [Graph 2] Where do most accidents take place in the home? ( in the kitchen)

  3.  [Graph 3] What are the most common accidents in the home? (cuts)

 

 

 

   ·   S read the passage for the 1st time to find the answers for the following questions (04m):

                   How many people in the USA are hurt every year in accidents in the house? (16 million)

                   What do most deaths in small children come from? (suffocation)

                   What are the most common kinds of accidents for older people? (falls, burns, accidental          

                   overdoses of medicine and accidental gassing)

   ·   S read the passage again , this time underline the words that you do not understand.

 

 

 

   ·   I will introduce these words:

  Þ  Fall: the (n) from the verb fall: go down to a lower place.

  Þ  Experiment: to try or test something to see what happens.

  Þ  Great: big, large.

  Þ  Including: what comes after the word including is part of what comes before the word: here, sharp is part of everything.

  Þ  Sharp: sharp things can often cut, scissors and knives are 2 examples of things which are sharp.

  Þ  Unsafe: the opposite of safe.

  Þ  Smoking: the (n) from smoke.

  Þ  Accidental: the (adj) from the (n) accident.

  Þ  Overdose: over is the opp of under, meaning less than: so an overdose of medicine is too much medicine

  Þ  Gassing: poisoning by breathing in gas.
