  B.  Practise using topic sentences to anticipate the subjects of paragraphs.

  C.  Introduce more new words.

   ·   Open PB/P42, read the title, S look at the pics:

   ·   pic1: What are these ? money / hallalas, They are coins

   ·   pic2: What [(are, is) (these, this)]? banknotes

   ·   pic3: What is this? It is a special banknote; It is a pilgrim’s certificate.

   ·   pic4: This is a banknote but pic 3 is not.

   ·   pic5: This is a banknote (100 riyal note), Show S: This is the front and this is the back, point to the #’s there, say: This is the serial number.

 

 

 

   ·   Ask: How many paragraph are there? 4                                                                     the #’s of the para

   ·   Write on the board:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

   ·   Say: these are the subj’s of the parag, look at the 6 new notes. Say: If you look at the beginning of a parag, you can see the subj of the parag, write the #’s of the parag next to the subj above, ask: What is parag #1 about?

   ·   Introduce metal by showing and saying: Here, we have paper money and metal money, Coins are metal money , close PB.

 

 

   ·   Write these Q’s on the board:

  a)  What was the name of the 1st paper money in Saudi Arabia? Pilgrim’s certificates

  b)  When did the first banknotes appear? in 1961

  c)  What are the colours on the Saudi 100-riyal note? brown, red and green.

   ·   S read the Q’s aloud. Open PB/P42, read the passage silently to find the answers.

 

 

   ·    Read the passage again, underline the words they still do not understand. The new words are:

  1.  easier: ask: Why do you think everybody wanted to carry paper money and not metal money? It is lighter and easier to carry.

  2.  note: Say: note is the short form of banknote.

  3.  pilgrim: Read it from parag 2: At first..........

  4.  Prophet: Hold up 100-riyal note and say: This is a mosque? Which one is it? Prophet’s Mosque ( the mosque of the prophet Mohammad ( Peace be upon him)

  5.  value: Read it from parag 4. Say: It is = the # of riyals, hold the notes and ask: What is the value of this note? .......
